Best New SUVs Under $30,000 in 2026
OVERVIEW
Finding a new SUV under $30,000 is still possible in 2026, but there is a difference between finding an SUV with a starting MSRP below $30,000 and finding one actually advertised within that budget.
AutoFinder analyzed recent 2026 new vehicle listings to see which SUVs were showing up at $30,000 or less. The results narrowed the field considerably.
Some SUVs have thousands of listings within the budget. Others technically start below $30,000, but most of the examples shoppers are likely to encounter are priced above it.
Our picks for the best new SUVs under $30,000 in 2026 are:
- Chevrolet Trax
- Hyundai Venue
- Nissan Kicks
- Buick Envista
- Chevrolet Trailblazer
- Hyundai Kona
- Kia Seltos
Prices can change with trim, options, destination charges, location, and dealer pricing, so treat $30,000 as a shopping target rather than a guarantee of your final purchase price.
What Are the Best New SUVs Under $30,000?
The strongest options are mostly small and subcompact SUVs. That is not necessarily a drawback. Shoppers can still find choices with available All Wheel Drive, useful cargo space, modern technology, and multiple trims without immediately moving into the $ 30,000-plus range.
What matters is how you plan to use the SUV.
The Chevrolet Trax stands out if keeping the purchase price low is the priority. The Kia Seltos and Hyundai Kona are worth considering if available All Wheel Drive matters. The Hyundai Venue is particularly budget-friendly, while the Buick Envista takes a more style-focused approach.
Here is a closer look.
Chevrolet Trax
2026 Chevrolet Trax
2026 Chevrolet Trax
The Chevrolet Trax is one of the clearest places to start when shopping for a new SUV below $30,000.
Chevrolet lists the 2026 Trax with a starting MSRP of $21,700. Even the higher 2RS and ACTIV trims start at $25,400 before options and other applicable charges. The Trax also offers up to 54 cubic feet of cargo volume and seats 5.
More importantly for this particular list, the advertised prices back up the low starting price.
AutoFinder analyzed 20,748 recent 2026 Trax listings. Of those, 20,464, or 98.63%, were advertised for $30,000 or less. The median advertised price was $26,293.
That is a much deeper selection than simply finding an occasional base model below the cutoff. LT, RS, and ACTIV models were all well represented among the qualifying listings.
Consider the Trax if: You want plenty of choices below $30,000 and do not need All Wheel Drive.
Hyundai Venue
2026 Hyundai Venue
2026 Hyundai Venue
The Hyundai Venue takes the low price approach even further.
The 2026 Venue starts at $20,550. Its 1.6-liter 4-cylinder produces 121 horsepower, and Hyundai estimates 29 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined. The Venue is Front Wheel Drive, although Snow Mode is available on SEL models.
Its AutoFinder numbers are unusually straightforward. We analyzed 5,082 recent Venue listings, and 5,077 were advertised at $30,000 or less. That works out to 99.90%. The median advertised price was only $24,725.
In other words, the Venue does not just technically qualify because of a low base price. Nearly the entire recent sample landed within the budget.
The tradeoff is that the Venue is a small SUV with a modest powertrain. Shoppers looking for more space, stronger performance, or All Wheel Drive will probably want to keep comparing.
Consider the Venue if: Keeping the price comfortably below $30,000 matters more than maximizing size or performance.
Nissan Kicks
2026 Nissan Kicks
2026 Nissan Kicks
The Nissan Kicks gives budget shoppers another option without forcing them to stay with Front Wheel Drive.
The 2026 Kicks has a starting MSRP below $30,000, and All Wheel Drive is available. That makes it particularly interesting for shoppers who want a small SUV while keeping both price and drivetrain flexibility in mind.
The listing data also gives the Kicks a strong case.
Among 7,990 recent 2026 Kicks listings analyzed by AutoFinder, 6,952 were advertised at $30,000 or less. That is 87.01%, with a median advertised price of $27,082. SV, SR, and S trims all appeared frequently within the budget.
That trim variety matters. A $30,000 budget does not necessarily restrict shoppers to the least equipped Kicks on the lot.
Consider the Kicks if: You want a small SUV with a large selection below $30,000 and the option of All Wheel Drive.
Buick Envista
2026 Buick Envista
2026 Buick Envista
The Buick Envista is an interesting alternative for shoppers who want their affordable SUV to feel a little less basic.
Buick offers the Envista in Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir trims. Its standard powertrain uses a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine producing 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Envista is Front Wheel Drive.
AutoFinder analyzed 7,703 recent 2026 Envista listings. Of those, 5,502, or 71.43%, were advertised at $30,000 or less. Its median advertised price was $28,597.
Preferred and Sport Touring models made up most of the Envistas within the budget, although some Avenir listings also slipped under the line.
The Envista therefore gives shoppers some room to think beyond the base trim, but there is less breathing room than with a Trax or Venue.
Consider the Envista if: You like its styling and interior presentation and are comfortable with Front Wheel Drive.
Chevrolet Trailblazer
2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer
2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer
The Trailblazer sits in an interesting position between an inexpensive entry point and broader configuration choices.
The 2026 Trailblazer starts at $23,300 according to Chevrolet. The LT starts at $24,500, while ACTIV and RS start at $27,900. All Wheel Drive is available, and every trim comes with an 11-inch center touchscreen.
AutoFinder's analysis included 8,388 recent Trailblazer listings. Of those, 4,883, or 58.21%, were advertised for $30,000 or less. The median advertised price was $29,235.
That makes the Trailblazer different from the Trax. There are still thousands of choices below $30,000, but shoppers have to pay closer attention to configuration and advertised price.
LS and LT accounted for most of the qualifying listings, although ACTIV and RS examples also appeared below the threshold.
Consider the Trailblazer if: You want more configuration flexibility, including available All Wheel Drive, and are willing to shop carefully around the $30,000 line.
Hyundai Kona
2026 Hyundai Kona
2026 Hyundai Kona
The Hyundai Kona is another SUV where $30,000 gives shoppers several configurations to consider.
Hyundai lists the 2026 Kona SE at $25,500, SEL Sport at $26,825, and SEL Premium at $28,425. The Limited moves beyond the budget with a starting MSRP above $30,000. All Wheel Drive is available, and fuel economy reaches an EPA-estimated 35 mpg highway on the Front Wheel Drive SEL Sport.
The real-world pricing picture is a little tighter.
AutoFinder analyzed 4,475 recent 2026 Kona listings, with 2,455 advertised at $30,000 or less. That represents 54.86% of the sample. The median advertised price was $29,640.
SEL Sport was by far the most common Kona trim below $30,000 in the analysis, followed by SE and SEL Premium.
The Kona therefore belongs on this list, but shoppers should expect less room beneath the budget than they would have with a Venue, Trax, or Kicks.
Consider the Kona if: You want available All Wheel Drive, useful fuel economy, and several trim choices while staying close to $30,000.
Kia Seltos
2026 Kia Seltos
2026 Kia Seltos
The Kia Seltos gives shoppers another path to an affordable SUV with available All Wheel Drive.
Kia lists the Seltos below $30,000 in several configurations. The 2026 model uses a 147-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder on lower trims, with available All Wheel Drive. Kia also lists features such as automatic emergency braking technology, lane-keeping technology, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the entry model.
The AutoFinder sample for the Seltos was smaller than the other SUVs above, with 879 recent listings analyzed. Still, 613 of them, or 69.74%, were advertised at $30,000 or less. The median advertised price was $28,882.
S was the most common qualifying trim, followed by EX and LX.
That gives the Seltos an appealing combination for this price range: a starting price comfortably below $30,000, available All Wheel Drive, and evidence that more than just a handful of listings fall within the budget.
Consider the Seltos if: Available All Wheel Drive and everyday practicality are high on your list.
What AutoFinder Data Shows About SUVs Under $30,000
Starting MSRP tells you where a vehicle's lineup begins. It does not tell you how easy that SUV will be to find advertised below the same price.
That distinction showed up clearly in AutoFinder's analysis.
The Trax had the largest pool of qualifying listings by a wide margin, with 20,464 advertised at $30,000 or less. The Venue had the highest percentage, with 99.90% of its analyzed listings below the cutoff. Kicks also performed strongly at 87.01%, while Envista came in at 71.43%.
There was another side to the data.
Several familiar SUVs appeared below $30,000 but had most of their analyzed listings above that price. Only 11.08% of Nissan Rogue listings qualified, along with 9.79% of Hyundai Tucson listings, 10.82% of Kia Sportage listings, 6.02% of Ford Bronco Sport listings, and 6.95% of Subaru Crosstrek listings.
That does not make those SUVs poor choices. Those SUVs may still be worth considering, but shoppers with a firm $30,000 budget may have fewer options to choose from.
It is also why we would not choose an SUV for this list based on starting MSRP alone.
About the data: AutoFinder analyzed recent 2026 new vehicle listings with advertised prices as of September 24, 2026. Advertised prices can change and may not include every cost associated with purchasing a vehicle. Vehicle availability and final pricing should be confirmed with the dealer.
Can You Really Buy a New SUV for Less Than $30,000?
Yes, but it helps to define what you mean by "under $30,000."
A vehicle can have a starting MSRP under $30,000 while the specific trim sitting at a dealership costs more because of its trim level, factory options, accessories, destination charges, or other costs.
There is also a difference between an advertised price below $30,000 and an out-the-door price below $30,000.
The out-the-door total can include applicable taxes, title and registration costs, dealer fees, and other charges. If your entire purchase needs to stay below $30,000 rather than just the vehicle price, give yourself some room below the limit.
The AutoFinder Out the Door Price Calculator can help you estimate those additional costs before you compare vehicles.
What Should You Look for in an SUV Under $30,000?
Start with how you actually use your vehicle rather than chasing the longest feature list.
For a daily commuter, fuel economy, comfort, visibility, and easy parking may matter most. A family may put more weight on rear seat space and cargo room. If winter weather is a regular part of your drive, available All Wheel Drive may move higher on your list.
Keep these factors in mind:
- Drivetrain: Several affordable SUVs offer All Wheel Drive, but others are Front Wheel Drive only.
- Trim: A model may start well below $30,000 while the trim with the features you want crosses the line.
- Cargo and passenger space: Small SUVs can vary considerably in how useful their interiors feel.
- Safety and driver assistance features: Compare what comes standard with the trim you are actually considering.
- Total purchase price: MSRP and advertised price are only parts of the final cost.

How AutoFinder Can Help You Shop for an SUV Under $30,000
Once you know which SUVs fit your needs, compare actual vehicles rather than relying only on the manufacturer's starting price.
Look at the trim, drivetrain, equipment, advertised price, and location. If 2 vehicles look similar, check whether the features you care about are actually included on both.
Before visiting a dealership, confirm the vehicle is still available and ask about the pricing shown in the listing. The dealer can also clarify equipment, incentives, financing options, trade value, and costs that may not be obvious from the starting MSRP.

Final Thoughts
A $30,000 budget still gives new SUV shoppers several legitimate choices in 2026.
The Chevrolet Trax and Hyundai Venue leave the most breathing room based on the listings AutoFinder analyzed. The Nissan Kicks also had a large share of listings within budget, while the Buick Envista offers a different style and interior approach. The Trailblazer, Kona, and Seltos give shoppers additional choices, including models with available All Wheel Drive.
The important part is looking beyond the starting MSRP. Decide which features and capabilities matter to you, compare actual listings, and check the full purchase price before deciding which SUV fits your budget.
Vehicle pricing, specifications, features, and availability can change. Manufacturer starting prices may exclude destination charges, taxes, title, registration, options, and other applicable costs. AutoFinder listing analysis reflects the data available at the time of analysis and should not be interpreted as a guarantee of current vehicle availability or final dealer pricing.
